He attended The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art from 2012 to 2016, where he obtained a BFA and received The Richard Lewis Bloch Memorial Prize for Excellence in the Arts. Cody's artistic inspiration stems from the diverse environment of his childhood, constant family conflicts at home and the solace and security in the great outdoors. His work delves into the concepts of life and death, societal norms and fears, and the dynamics of leaders and followers, aiming to unveil a truth in finding inner peace amidst a chaotic world.
In addition to his work as a visual artist, Cody has gained an apprenticeship under his mentor David Sena owner of Sena Tattoo in New York City, helping to expand upon his visual knowledge. At present, Cody works out of his Brooklyn based studio creating silkscreened works on paper and garments. Currently tattooing out of Eight of Swords Tattoo in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
Artist Statement
In today's technology-driven society, the pervasive distractions and overwhelming influence of social media have caused a gradual disconnection between the individual and the ability to follow their intuition. As a result, one loses touch with their genuine self and the world around them.
As an artist, I am compelled to explore this disconnection in my work. I believe that to effectively portray an experience it is crucial not to define it in anyway. Doing so would hinder its full potential and its ability to resonate with the viewer. Instead, I choose to follow my intuition and remain attuned to the excitement that emerges during the creative process. By embracing this serendipity I aim to bring forth a sincere portrait of internal experiences. In the exploration of various mediums, I aim to captivate experiences that push the boundaries of the viewer's perception and reawaken one’s connection to the authentic self.
Through my work, I hope to provoke contemplation and introspection while nurturing a space for one to discover a genuine self, unburdened by the pressures of societal conformity and external influences.
